John Wallace "Wally" Richey 77, of Boonville passed away peacefully Tuesday morning Dec. 15 at Ashley Manor Care Center with his wife at his side.
Visitation for Wally will be from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17 at Davis Funeral Chapel, with a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. following the visitation with Fr. Euro Basil officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
John Wallace Richey was born on May 24, 1938 in Cooper County, Mo. the son of Norman Francis Richey and Cecelia Frances Fahrendorf Richey. Wally attended SS Peter & Paul Catholic School and proudly served his country in the Marines from 1956-1959 as a corporal. He married Eloyce Ann Hunter on Feb. 7, 1956 in Boonville at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Rectory. He retired from Huebert Fiberboard in 2000 as a foreman. Wally was an avid golfer and won the club championship at the old Kemper Golf Course and Hail Ridge Golf Course at least once in each of the past six decades. He played the sand greens at the old course and it took him a while to embrace the new course. He played and won many golf tournaments over the years with his golfing partner, Dennis Smith. He loved to hunt and fish and entertain his family and friends with fish frys and late night card parties. He enjoyed playing cards at the Eagles in the afternoon where he was a past president and taking money from his golfing buddies in the morning. He leaves behind many good friends at the Eagles and Hail Ridge Golf Course. He was a fan of all sports and attended most Boonville Pirate sporting events especially when his grandchildren were involved.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Edwin and Larry Richey. He is survived by his wife Eloyce of the home; sons, John W. Richey, Jr. (Deana) of Nixa, Mo.. and Brian (Fran) Richey of Hartsburg, Mo.; his daughter, Monica Pfeiffer (James Oswald) of Boonville, Mo.; brothers, Bill Richey (Glenda) of Boonville, Mo. and Steve Richey (Judy) of Columbia, Mo.; sisters, Norma Webster (Wayne) of Boonville, Mo., Velma Papin (Chuck) of St. Clair, Mo. and Carolyn Peters of Bloomington, Ill. Also surviving are his grandchildren Shelby Lewis, Brock, Bethany and Bailey Pfeiffer.
