LaVerne E. Miers, 90, of Boonville passed away at his home on Monday, Mar. 3, 2014.
Funeral services for Mr. Miers will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 7, 2014 with Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at 1:00 o'clock. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Billingsville.
LaVerne Miers was born Jan. 29, 1924 in Grand Junction, Iowa, the son of Fredrick A. Miers and Ethel DeWitt Miers. Mr. Miers served his country with the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was in the construction business where he was a superintendent until he moved to Boonville where he worked at Toastmaster until his retirement. LaVerne married Mary Ruth Hill in Boonville Apr. 1, 1966 and she preceded him in death only 10 days ago. LaVerne was very outspoken and an entertaining story teller; he was very proud of his service to his country. He enjoyed fishing very much; he took pride in his yard and the upkeep of his home. He loved to fly and he logged many many hours flying around the country for both business and pleasure which cultivated many exciting stories, which he loved to share with others. He was very devoted to his wife, until her death.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister and by his step-daughter, Carol Jean Hill. He is survived by his stepchildren, Ralph Hill of Boonville and Bruce Hill (Debbie) of Columbia, as well as seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
