Mary Frances Smothers, formerly of New Franklin, passed away Dec. 21, at Ashely Manor in Boonville. She was 94 years old.

Mary Frances was born in Cooper County on July 1, 1916, to Oliver F. and Hattie Belle Adair Bottoms. She married Chester Smothers on Feb. 26, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1992.
She was formerly employed at Sunny Day Ladies Ready to Wear in Boonville. She enjoyed traveling and going on fishing trips with her husband and was a member of the New Franklin Christian Church.
Mrs. Smothers was a 57-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, initiated to the New Franklin Order of the Eastern Star on April 9, 1953. She was Worthy Matron of the New Franklin Chapter in 1961 and 1989, District Deputy Grand Matron for the 25th District in 1964, Grand Adah for the State of Missouri in 1967, Grand Representative in 1970 and at the time of her death was a member of the Boone Chapter 290.
Survivors include a brother, Don C. Bottoms of Dallas, Texas and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Hayden, Dorsey, Bill, Lewis "Toots," Oliver, Jr., John and Truman Bottoms; sisters, Gertrude Fain, Wanda Agnew, Betty Matthews, Judy Burks and infant sister Marcia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 27, at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.
