Melynda Louise Surber, 51, of Boonville, Mo., passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Born June 1, 1965, in Marshall, Mo., Melynda was the daughter of the late Jerry Leirvin Surber and Joyce Jean Stephenson Surber who survives of Boonville. She was a 1983 graduate of Marshall High School and received an associate's degree in both business and human services from Columbia College. Her senior year she started working at the Marshall Habilitation Center from 1982 to 2002. After completion of college, she went to work for the McCambridge Center (Pathways) in Columbia. She worked as a counselor assistant from 2007 to 2008; counselor assistant supervisor from 2008 to 2010; and community support specialist from 2010 until her passing.
In addition to her mother, Joyce Hazlett and husband Rick, Melynda is survived by her son, Jacob Michael Leirvin Surber of the home; her brother, Michael Leirvin Surber and fiancée Diana Wilson of Boonville; two stepbrothers, Tom Hazlett and wife Mary Jo of Republic, Mo. and Brian Hazlett and wife Tina of Mohomet, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her father, Melynda was preceded in death by her grandparents, G.C. Surber, Thelma Louise Surber, Mary B. Heinaman and Clarence Eugene Stephenson.
Melynda dedicated her life to her son Jacob, and to her career as a recovering addict. She wanted to help those with drug and alcohol addictions to prove it can be accomplished.
