Nellie M. Janssen of Springfield, Ill., died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was 87.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church. She will lie in state at Grace Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2010 at the church with the Revs. Thomas B. Christell and Juli Lejman-Guy officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Janssen was born April 28, 1922, in Springfield, Ill., to Benjamin and Anna A. Noonan Freligh.
She married Harmon R. Janssen on February 27, 1943. He died March 6, 1967.
Mrs. Janssen was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area. She was a retired clerk, having worked for more than 30 years with the Illinois Secretary of State. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna Marie Janssen of Springfield; three sons, Harmon G. (Patricia)?Janssen, Thomas Henry Janssen and Harold Richard (Kim)?Janssen, all of Springfield; two sisters, Anna Mae (Marshall) Handshy and Mildred (Stanley) Shimkus, both of Springfield; a brother, Benjamin Freligh of Buffalo; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three sisters, Dorothy Wyatt, Beatrice Bosie and Margaret Freligh; two brothers, Frederick Lee and Henry Freligh; and one daughter-in-law, Santa Janssen.
