Phyllis J. Streit, 69, of Pilot Grove, passed away at Capital Region Hospital in Jefferson City on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, following a long a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation for Phyllis will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove on Sunday, Feb. 28th, from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. with the rosary being recited at 2:00. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, Feb. 29th with Father Phil Kane officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Phyllis Jeanette Streit was born September 20, 1946 at St. Joseph Hospital, in Boonville, the daughter of Phillip N. Day and Kathryn M. Eckerle Day. Phyllis graduated from Pilot Grove High School. She married G.V. Streit Sept. 28, 1966, - he preceded her in death on July 28, 1989. Phyllis was a pillar of the Pilot Grove Community: She served on numerous boards, volunteered for many years and was very active in her church. She was the bookkeeper and secretary to the Pilot Grove School and Superintendent for twenty-eight years and served as secretary of the school board, then was elected to the school board after her retirement. She worked the past 8 years at Katy Manor. Phyllis' trademark was her infectious, friendly smile that was appreciated by everyone she met. She loved Pilot Grove, especially as a sports fan, who followed her grandchildren's progress through the years.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brothers Harold Joe, Jerome, and Gerald Day and her sister, Alice Wirths. She is survived by her son, Greg (Jessica) Streit of Boonville, daughters, Vickie (Fred) Weisgerber of Ranch Santa Margarita, CA, Brenda (Bill) Bader and Jilene Streit of Pilot Grove as well as her siblings, Kenny Day of Columbia and Delores Rachaner of Sunrise Beach, MO. Her loving grandchildren; Max and Colin Weisgerber, Hailey and Reed Bader, Justin Wittman, Garrett and Gunner Streit, Derek Zeller and Sadie Streck will miss her love and affection for a long time to come.
