Preston G. Berwanger, 91, of Carrollton, Missouri, went peacefully to his Maker on Feb. 20, surrounded by his loving family at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Boonville at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. Family will receive friends from 9 o'clock until time of the Mass at 11. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Preston Gervase Protase Berwanger was born in Perry Township, Brown County, Ohio, Sept. 25, 1919, the son of Albert Francis Berwanger and Goldie Magdalene Romohr Berwanger. He married Mary Ann Luken Sept. 16, 1950, and they are the parents of eight children. Mr. Berwanger was a farmer in Clinton County Ohio and in 1976 he moved to Boonville and farmed in Cooper, Carroll and Mercer counties. More recently, after moving to the Carrolton, Mo., area, he continued his love of farming, in the form of planting and nurturing some 10,000 walnut trees, until his death. He was a steward of the land and his goal was to leave a property in better shape than he found it. He was respected and trusted by his peers and was considered a gentleman to the nth degree. Preston was a devout Catholic, and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the American Tree Farm System, the Ohio and Warren County Genealogical Society and a member of First Families of Warren County, with proven ancestors prior to 1820.
Mr. Berwanger is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of the home, his children; sons, Paul, (Donna) of Boonville, William (Penny) of Princeton, MO, Eric and Connie of Bunceton; his daughters, Mary Christine and Joseph Blanco, Cincinnati, Ohio, JoAnn Claire Berwanger of Carrolton, Mo., Lois Jean and Keith Dickinson of Greenwood, Mo., Anita Rose Berwanger, of Jeff City, Mo. and Irene Teresa and Steve Fluker of Jefferson City. A brother, Adrian Russel "R.T." Berwanger of Xenia, Ohio and his sister Mary L. Berwanger of Cincinnati, Ohio as well as 16 grandchildren, also survive. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Memorials are suggested to the American Tree Farm System or the Knights of Columbus.
