Raymond J Schuster, 91, of Maryville, Missouri passed away, Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at St Francis Hospital, Maryville.
Raymond was born November 3, 1919 in Pilot Grove, Missouri, the son of Francis Joseph and Effie Mary (Martin) Schuster. He was a graduate of Conception High School, Conception, Missouri; Raymond attended Conception College for one year. He enlisted in the US Navy in September of 1942, serving until December of 1945 when he was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. Raymond had married Gertrude Margaret Brady on June 5, 1943 in Conception, Missouri.
After WWII, Raymond worked for Price Funeral Home in the Furniture and Floor Covering Department.
He received a BS in Secondary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and worked toward his Masters Degree at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. An educator, he began teaching in the Mitchellville, Iowa school system in 1950 and received his Masters in Education from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Schuster was the Superintendent of Schools for the Jefferson C-123 School District at Conception Junction, Missouri from 1952-1970 when he moved to the Maryville R II School District to become the Principal of the Washington Middle School until June 30, 1987 when he retired.
He was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community, Maryville and Missouri Retired Teachers Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Gertrude on March 7, 1996; his parents; brothers: Fr. Philip Schuster, OSB; Herman, Leonard, Ralph and Richard Schuster ; sisters: Bernadine Vollmer, Christina Stallone, Sr. Flora Schuster, OSB, Mary Helen Jedlicka, Margaret Stoecklein Sr. Regina Schuster OSB and Effie Selby.
Survivors include his children: Judy Kay Myers, Edmond, Oklahoma; Michael Schuster, Edmond; Frank Schuster, Edmond; Jerry Schuster, Stroud, Oklahoma; Dan Schuster, Maryville; Dr. Mary Nagy, Leawood, Kansas; and Jeanne Pierson, Barnard, Missouri; sister: Isabel Lang, Booneville, Missouri; twenty-three grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 7:30-8:30 pm Friday, October 7, 2011 with a 8:30pm Parish Prayer Service at St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, Missouri.
Mass of Christian Burial is 9:30 am, Saturday, October 8, 2011 at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri with burial in St Columba Cemetery, Conception.
Memorials may be given to Conception Abbey for the Fr. Philip Schuster Scholarship Fund, the General Fund of Conception Abbey, Conception, Missouri or to St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community, Maryville.
