Velma Schubert Oswald age 94 of San Antonio, Texas went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2012.
Mrs. Oswald was born February 6, 1917 to George and Antonia Rockelman Schubert in Tacony, Colorado. She attended high school in Pittsburg, Kansas and nursing school in Boonville, Missouri.
In 1943 she enlisted in the United States Army. She was stationed stateside and took care of many wounded veterans as they returned from World War II. She and Harold F. Oswald married on May 2, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by him on January 31, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers - Walter, Clem and Ted, sisters - Lavina Schubert and Dorothy Toellner. After the war, they resided in Boonville, Missouri and had Oswald Real Estate Agency for many years. Later on, they moved to Columbia, Mo where she worked as Director of Nursing at the University Of Missouri Medical Center. After retirement, they moved to Florida playing golf and serving others. Eventually they moved to Saint Simons Island, GA where they attended St Williams Catholic Church. Mrs. Oswald moved to San Antonio, TX in June of 2011.
Mrs. Oswald is survived by her devoted children, Gregory S Oswald and Sandy Miller of Hartsville, SC, Susan and John A. James III of Spring Branch, TX, Barbara and Adrian Curt Coleman of Saint Simons Island, GA and David M. and Lesley Oswald of Boonville, Mo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrew J. Oswald of St Petersburg, FL, Christopher S. Oswald of Tampa, FL, Jennifer J. Domel and her husband Bradley of Bulverde, TX, David C. James of Washington, DC, Natalie A. Miller and her husband Tab of St Simons Island, GA, J. Alex Coleman of Atlanta, GA and Stephen M. Oswald of Boonville, MO. Mrs. Oswald is also survived by four beautiful great grandchildren Lauren E. Domel and Dylan J. Domel of Bulverde, TX, Landon M. Oswald of Kansas City, MO and Audrey Sophia Miller of Saint Simons Island, GA. She is also survived by her brother Robert of Colorado Springs, Co., sisters, June Jardine of Ft Collins, Co, Mary Beth Hawkins of Colorado Springs, CO and her sister-in-law Beverly Schubert of Calhan, Co.
The family and friends will have a mass and celebration of Mrs. Oswald's life at a later date at St Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Boonville, MO. Inurnment will be at that time at the St Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Peter and Paul Building Fund, 502 Seventh St. Boonville, MO 65233
