Vernon E. Davis, 94, of Boonville, formerly of Pilot Grove, passed away at Cooper County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

Funeral services for Vernon will be held at Evangelical United Church of Christ 1 p.m. on Monday, June 6. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service starting at noon. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Pilot Grove City Cemetery.
Vernon Edward Davis was born Feb. 6, 1922 in Lamine, Mo., the son of William H. Davis and Laura Westfall Davis. He married Geneva Williamson on July 24, 1943, in Texas. He proudly served his country during WW II with the U.S. Army from Nov. 1942 until Dec. 1945 with most of that time spent in Europe. After the war Vernon worked with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company, until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed retirement, traveling the country with his wife, trout fishing in Roaring River and other popular trout streams. The spring of the year would find him mushroom hunting and sharing his bounty with friends and family. Vernon was a long time member of United Church of Christ in Boonville.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Geneva, a son, and his wife, Donald Wayne and M. Lucinda Davis of Portland, Maine, a sister, Laura Frances Friess of Pilot Grove along with several nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Larry Davis, six brothers and two sisters.
Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical UCC of Boonville. Arrangements under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
