Well known Fayette resident, Virginia Lane died peacefully Friday morning, Dec. 6, 2013 in Kirkwood, Missouri. She was 89.
Virginia Doris Lane was born Oct. 12, 1924 in Lilbourn, MO, she was the daughter of Joe and Fannie Inman. After high school graduation she married Robert M. Lane, on June 7, 1943, who was then serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in San Francisco, CA. Mrs. Lane worked as a caseworker for the Missouri Dept. of Family Services for many years, before her retirement in 1987. She was active in the Fayette Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she was a member since 1952.
Doris enjoyed playing bridge, helping many Fayette charities, and fishing and golfing with all of her family members and many friends at the Fayette Golf Club. As an active golfer she accomplished something no one else in her family has been able to do- a hole in one. And she did that twice. She was an avid fan of Mizzou Football and Basketball. She was dearly loved by all of her family and will be deeply missed but always remembered.
She is survived by her sister Zelma Gremore of Sikeston, MO, her two sons, Robert Lane and his wife Marie of Mahtomedi, MN. and Richard Lane and his wife, Vicki of Webster Groves, MO. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Amy, Julie, Susan, Matthew, Betsy, Peter and Michael: and four great grandchildren, Jaxon, Natalie, Eli and Chloe and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by her husband Robert; her sister Selma; and brother Hoyt Hemphill.
Funeral services are set for 1:00 PM Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Fayette Christian Church with the Rev. Paula Ritchie officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery with Robert Lane, Richard Lane, Matthew Lane, Peter Lane, Michael Lane and Harry Gremore serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Wednesday evening at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette.
