William Howard Bechtel, 87, of Sedalia, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Blue River Care Center in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Drew Hill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Bechtel, Travis Swopes, Mike Chancellor, Jimmy Piles, Bill Burnett and Dale Bechtel. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
Born June 9, 1924 in Barnett, MO, he was the son of the late Maurice E. and Janie Luella Brown Bechtel. On September 4, 1948 in Boonville, he married Lucille Jane Masters, who survives.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Bechtel, of Long Beach, CA and Greg Bechtel, of Shawnee, KS; two daughters, Cheryl Swopes, of Hughesville and Rita Freitas, of Sacramento, CA; a brother Harold Bechtel, of Boonville; two sisters, Naomi Piles, of Rochester, NY and Norma Burnett, of Boonville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bechtel was a member of First Baptist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army Engineers during World War II. He was a salesman for Holsum Bread Company for 30 years and a supervisor at the Sedalia location.
