William L. Kurtz, Jr., 81, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday morning, April 7, 2010, at Katy Manor Nursing Home in Pilot Grove.

He was born October 20, 1928, in Boonville, Missouri, the son of William Leonard Kurtz Sr. (deceased May 1978) and Mildred Edmonston Kurtz (deceased September 13, 1995). He was the grandson of Frederick William and Alice Kurtz, and James William and Nannie McCormick Edmonston.
Mr. Kurtz attended Boonville Elementary School and Boonville High School. He was a graduate of Park College and received a Master's degree in business from University of Missouri. He completed graduate work at University of Tennessee.
He retired from Federal Government Service in Kansas City and Memphis, Tennessee.
He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, a charter member of Alpha Delta Sigma, Sons of the American Revolution, Society of War of 1812, Descendants of Confederate Veterans, Sons of the Confederacy, Cooper County Historical Society, the University Club, and Broadway Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Pettis County Chapter American Red Cross, serving as board member and treasurer since 1986.
Survivors include cousins, Robert and Ann Betteridge, of Pilot Grove, Jane and Harold Bechtel, of Boonville, and Dan and Mary Cope, of Sedalia.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia. Private graveside services will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Pettis County Chapter American Red Cross.
