To Joan and the Foley Family

I was surprised and dismayed to learn of Paul's passing.

Paul and I served together on the Board of Directors of Mittersill Alpine Resort for sixteen years. When the board meetings were in Manchester, we usually drove up together. I will always remember our lively discussions driving to and from the meetings. We discussed sports, politics and solved the world's problems.

When the meetings were up at the Resort in Franconia, NH, the board members with the long drives usually stayed overnight. I remember many happy dinners together with Paul, Joan and his sister Claire. One Saturday night in 1997, Paul, Claire and I were up at the Resort having dinner. We were enjoying the newly installed windows at the Resort and reflecting on how well things were going. Around dessert time, there was a thunderstorm and the wind began to howl.

Around 9 pm, when the power went out, there was nothing to do so we all went up to our rooms to go to sleep. The wind was roaring. Around 10 pm, Claire knocked on my door telling me that a sudden bust of wind, a microburst, had pulled off part of the roof and the first responders had said that we all had to go downstairs. Fortunately, we had installed emergency lanterns in all the units. Paul, Claire and I went to the lobby where all the displaced guests were gathered. Paul worked with the staff and the general manager to ensure that everyone was safe. Then we all assisted in the relocation of the affected guests to rooms in undamaged areas for the night.

I will always remember Paul as a person of strong values and consistent convictions who focused on what he felt were the concerns of people.

Dearest Joan,

You are like a mother to me. You were there for me when I lost my mother and sister and I needed comfort. You and dad were both there for me when I needed a listening ear or someone to guide me in my future. I owe you both so much so please allow me to help you in any way during your time of need.

To my best friend Paul… Keep your father's memory alive. Remember all the times he made us laugh and all the fun we had with him whether it was skiing up North or vacationing on the beach in the Cape. These are the moments that will help us get through this very difficult loss.

To Jean, Mark and Mike…. You all have a bit of your father in you which is why you are so loved and respected among your friends and family. I credit both Mom and Dad for raising such a wonderful family.

My deepest sympathy,
