VINOD TRIPATHI Obituary

Tripathi, Dr. Vinod K. 80, of Chelmsford, MA, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014. He was born in Hardoi, India to the late Babulal Tripathi and Bittan Tripathi. He received his MD from King George's Medical College in Lucknow, India. He is survived by his loving wife Dr. Usha Tripathi, two devoted children and their spouses; Reena Tripathi Demers and Emile Demers of Dracut, MA, and Dr. Suhas (Micky) Tripathi and Mimi Bernardin of Newton, MA. He is also survived by five adoring grandchildren of whom he was exceptionally proud; Dr. Nathaan Demers and his fiancé Dorothy Muirhead of Denver, CO, Anjuli Curran and her husband Bryan Curran of Waltham, MA, and Jaya Tripathi, Jesse Tripathi, and Avery Tripathi, of Newton, MA. Dr Vinod Tripathi immigrated to the United States with his wife Usha in 1959. He was a respected and beloved member of the Lowell medical community, and had deep professional affinity and commitment to Lowell General Hospital, where he was a past-Chief of Medical Staff and a past-Trustee, as well as the Massachusetts Medical Society, where he served in a variety of leadership roles. As both a surgeon and a family physician in Pelham, NH, he devoted his professional life to caring for entire families of patients, whom he saw in his office, in the hospital, and in house-calls. He was a proud American citizen who nevertheless remained attached to his mother country and the small rural village in which he was raised. After his retirement from medicine, he founded a school for poor girls in his native village of Jangoan, India, which educates hundreds of girls annually. He deeply touched the lives of many in India, the US, and Canada, and will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at the Clark Auditorium of Lowell General Hospital at 4pm on Saturday May 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lowell General Hospital Philanthropy Department, In Memory of Dr Vinod Tripathi, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Blake Funeral Home, Chelmsford. For online condolences please visit blakefuneralhome.com.

I just heard of Dr. Tripathi's passing and it brought tears to my eyes. He was an amazing man. I'd like to share a funny story. When I was six he removed my tonsils. As I was waiting in the hallway of LGH to be brought into surgery, I was screaming in fear. He came out of the surgery room he was in and tried to calm me, but it didn't work. The shot of anesthesia did though. He was great! RIP Doc.

His rendering of Hindi poems still rings in my ears. Although no words can really ease the pain you bear just to know that you are very close in every thoughts and prayers.
