BRODIE, DANIEL LEE - Georgetown
Brodie, Daniel Lee 62, of Georgetown, MA passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, May 28th after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Just like any of the projects that Dan tackled in his life, he left this world on his own terms remaining active until the end. Dan was born in Haverhill, MA to Barbara (Connell) Brodie and the late Norman H. Brodie. He attended Pentucket Regional High School, and the University of Massachusetts where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In his life, Dan has held many positions. He worked as a police patrolman for both the Merrimac and West Newbury Police Departments, and was an Essex County Fire Arms instructor as well as a Red Cross instructor. Dan was a volunteer firefighter in Georgetown where he was the President of the Erie 4 Fire Association. He was a ski instructor at Ski Bradford for over 36 years, and a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. For over 25 years, Dan worked at Merrimack Valley Works (formerly known as Western Electric, AT&T Bell Laboratories, and Lucent Technologies) as the Business Development Manager, and he finished his life as the Director of Asset Management for PICS Telecom International Inc. where he had been for over 16 years. Dan served as an altar server at the Church of the Nativity in Merrimac, and was on the Parish Council at St. Ann's in West Newbury. He was also a Justice of the Peace, but only for one day in order to officiate his brother's wedding. Dan was a great man who when faced with a terminal illness continued living life to the fullest. It did not faze him that he was handed a clock; instead, he embraced his time and continued to fight, work, ski, sled, and take care of his family. Dan was an avid skier, golfer, and a die-hard Boston Sports fan. What he enjoyed most, however, was his family. His final hours were spent at home with his new grandson whispering words of wisdom and life lessons that he knew he otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to give. Dan was preceded in death by his father Norman H. Brodie, and his granddaughter Madeline C. Brodie. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Patricia (Batchelder) Brodie, his son Matthew Brodie and daughter-in-law Nicole (Psarros) Brodie of Rochester, NY, his grandson Camden Walker Daniel Brodie, and his mother, Barbara Brodie. In addition, he leaves behind his seven siblings: Norina Bourget, Jocelyn Cox, Dennis Brodie, Terrence Brodie, Kevin Brodie, Shaun Brodie, Patrick Brodie, and their families including his fifteen nieces and nephews, and fifteen great nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday and Friday June 4th and 5th at the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA from 4-8pm. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on June 6th at Saint Ann's Parish, 300 Main Street, West Newbury, MA. The burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery, 2 Locust Grove Road, Merrimac. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Institute in memory of Daniel Lee Brodie to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, or via www.dana-faber.org/gift .
