EDWARD PAUL ASTOR(1939 - 2014)

ASTOR, Edward Paul 75, Chemical Lab Manager. On Friday, June 27, 2014 the world lost one of the most amazing, giving and loving men when Edward Paul "Dizzy" Astor of Westminster, MA, died after a long illness. He was born in Gardner, on June 11, 1939, a son of the late Paul and Rose, (Sohegian) Astor. Edward was a life-long resident of Central Massachusetts. Edward attended Gardner High School then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a Corporal, in Germany and Vietnam, during the War. He received his GED there and was extremely proud of his military years as a paratrooper. He graduated from Sylvania Technical School and was employed at Crocker Burbank Paper Mill in Fitchburg, which later became Weyerhauser the James River. After working for James River for more than 35 years, Edward retired to spend more time with his wife of 40 years, Diane (Paolini) Astor, of Westminster, and their children Lisa Astor of Malden, MA and Justin Astor of Leominster, MA. Sports were an integral part of his life, both as an athlete himself and as a fan. During his baseball years, he was known in Gardner as the short-stop who regularly hit the ball out of Polaski Park. An avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Bruins, Boston, Celtics, and the New York Yankees, (despite his family's chagrin), Edward rarely missed as game. His favorite was a Red Sox-Yankees match. More than anything, Edward loved his wife, children, and pets, and the time they shared together. A truly kind hearted and selfless person, Edward was always there for anyone in need, even complete strangers. He was dedicated to all causes for animals, U.S. Veterans, and children, donating frequently and offering support. In addition to his wife and children, Edward leaves his beloved father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Ann Paolini of Westminster, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Valerie (Paolini) and Jerald Paquin, Brother-in-law Frank Paolini all of NH, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Edward's Funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 123 Main Street, WESTMINSTER, MA, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church Street, Westminster, MA 01473.
