HOWARD I. WHITTAKER

WHITTAKER, Howard I. Of Kennebunk, ME, formerly of Middlebury, CT, on July 18. Beloved husband of Lillian Belanger Whittaker. Father of Darlene Delaney & her husband Gavin of Cumming, GA, & James & his wife Jean of Charlestown, Son of the late Irving Young Whittaker and Leora Mae (Whitlock) Whittaker and brother of the late Russell. Also survived by 5 grandchildren Stephanie Coppen, Derek Delaney, Marc, Jamie Addonizio & Kyle & 8 great grandchildren. Howard graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury, CT, class of 1942. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in January of 1943, Howard served with the 4th Marine Division which made beach landings in Saipan, Tinian & most notably Iwo Jima. Howard also served with the 4th Marine division during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military duty, Howard & his family took up residence in Middlebury, CT, where he was a town constable & a member of the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department. Howard was also a proud member of the Middlebury baseball and hockey teams. Howard was employed by both the Robertshaw Lux Clock Co. and the Timex Corp. Howard was a member of the CT Chapter of Iwo Jima survivors, the Marine Corp. League, the VFA & the American Legion. Visiting hours will be held at the Salvatore Rocco & Sons Funeral Home, 331 Main St., EVERETT, Wednesday, July 24, from 9-11 a.m. Relatives & friends are invited. A prayer service will then take place at the Bourne National Cemetery, Cape Cod with interment to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers donations in Howard's memory may be made to the Marine Corp.
