JAMES J. DOWD

DOWD, James J. Of Weymouth, formerly of Roxbury, age 85, entered into eternal life on January 20, 2013. Jim was born and raised in Roxbury and had lived in Weymouth for 61 years. Jim graduated from Boston English High School and Boston College. Mr. Dowd was a WW II army veteran. He served as an instructor at West Point Military Academy. For more than forty years he was a Certified Public Accountant for the Federal and State governments. Jim did extensive volunteer work, including establishing the Sacred Heart School Association. He was one of the original founders of the Weymouth Food Pantry and served as the organization's treasurer for 25 years. Mr. Dowd also served as a trustee of Aquinas Junior College on behalf of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston and worked for many years as a program co-coordinator for religious education of special needs children on the South Shore. Beloved husband of Barbara (Sheehan) Dowd for 61 years. Devoted father of Christopher Dowd of Braintree and his wife Karen, James of Weymouth and his wife Mary Lou, Anne McFadd of Weymouth and her husband Thomas, Edward of Greenfield and his wife Leanne, John of Amherst, NH and his wife Crista, Scott of Weymouth and his wife Tania. Beloved brother of the late Margaret O'Connell, Dorothy Moynihan, Virginia Carr, John Gerard Dowd, and Arthur Dowd. Loving papa to James, William, Emily, Julianne, Rachel, Brianna, Patrick, Evelyn, Julia, Theodore, and Daniel. Funeral from the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington St., WEYMOUTH, on Friday, January 25, at 10:00 am. Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Thursday, January 24 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
