MADDOX, Jane E. (Sheehan) 66, died Monday morning, October 28, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by friends and family who were a continuous source of love and support. An inhabitant of Islington Peninsula in Newton, she grew up on the island of New Castle, NH, exchanging sea gulls for wood ducks and snapping turtles. She graduated from University of New Hampshire and received her Masters of Communications Management at Simmons College. She worked at Polaroid Corporation and The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI), now part of the Boston Foundation, co-writing The World We Want: New Dimensions in Philanthropy and Social Change (2007). Later she was Director of Communications at Tellus Institute where she worked toward a global citizens movement called the Great Transition for a more just and sustainable world. In earlier years, Jane enjoyed acting and oil painting in her free time and she practiced speech pathology out of Dartmouth Hitchcock College and North Reading public schools. She is survived by her loving partner of 18 years, Lee Lucas; son, Jesse Maddox; daughter Katherine Maddox (Nick Menache) and grandsons Maddox and Niko Menache; and brother Thomas D. Sheehan. Jane was an extraordinary person who touched everyone she met with her intelligence, wit and beauty. She will be greatly missed. Visiting hours will be held in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Rte. 16), West Newton, Wednesday evening from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton, Thursday, October 31, at 12 Noon with reception to follow.
