JANET GAEL O'DONNELL

O'DONNELL, Janet Gael Age 56, of Cohasset, died March 3, 2013, in her home in Cohasset. Beloved wife of Chris Timothy Holland. Devoted mother of Israel Peter Sanchez of Cohasset and Julia Carol Morlino and her husband Steven of Boston, and grandmother of Angelo Morlino. Stepmother of Emily Holland of Somerville, and Eric Holland of Waltham. Janet was the daughter of Thomas L.P. O'Donnell of Hingham and the late Carol Hodgdon O'Donnell. Sister of Ellen Broggi and her husband Richard of Bridgewater, Vermont, Thomas L.P. O'Donnell, Jr. (Tim) and his wife Elke of Cambridge, and Christopher H. O'Donnell and his wife Elizabeth Call, also of Cambridge. Along with other family members, Jan leaves behind her many close and loving friends, fellow equestrians, and professional colleagues spanning decades. Jan was born on October 23, 1956 and grew up in Hingham, sailing at the Hingham Yacht Club and riding at Friar's Gate Farm in Pembroke. She was a graduate of Milton Academy, attended William Smith College and received a bachelor's degree from Tufts University and an M.B.A. degree from Boston University. Jan pursued a successful career as a commercial banker, beginning at The First National Bank of Boston, and retired as a senior vice president of Bank of America about two years ago. A gifted and enthusiastic equestrian, Jan owned and showed hunters for many years, both in the Northeast and during winter months in Wellington, Florida. She competed at the National Horse Show and other major venues. A year ago, although receiving regular cancer treatments, she was Blue Ribbon Circuit Champion of her division at the World Equestrian Festival with her horse Liana in Wellington, for which she was awarded the Kenya Perpetual Trophy. She was also a board member of the American Hunter-Jumper Association and a member of the Norfolk Hunt Club. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church, 10 Summer Street, Cohasset, Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at Jan and Chris' home, 102 Beechwood Street, Cohasset. Visiting hours will also be at the home of Jan and Chris, on Thursday, March 7, from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Norwell VNA and Hospice, 91 Longwater Circle, Norwell, MA 02061.
