Sherman, Jean (Rapoport)
103, of Peabody formerly of Saugus and Sunny Isles, FL. Entered Eternal Rest April 24, 2013. Educated in Lynn, Burdett College and Boston University, she worked as a secretary, stenographer and interpreter in law offices using her language skills in Polish, German, Russian, Yiddish and English. She served 3 terms on the Saugus School Committee and was a volunteer for many civic and charitable organizations on the North Shore. Mrs. Sherman helped raise over 26 thousand dollars in War Bonds during WW II. During her life she received numerous citations and awards including 2 public service citations from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A past President of Bnai Brith Women of Lynn; she was a member and served on committees of Brandeis University National Women's Committee, Hadassah, Congregation Ahavas Sholom of Saugus, N.E. Regional Board of Anti-defamation League of Bnai Brith, Child Guidance Center and Mental Health Board of Greater Lynn, United Fund and Red Cross, Lebanon Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Saugus Rotary, Saugus Historical Society and Auxiliary of Mount Sinai Hospital. Mrs. Sherman was a fundraiser for National Jewish Hospital in Denver, UNICEF, United Fund, Jewish Welfare Board, Lynn Hebrew School, Salvation Army, and Cancer drive, Polio Foundation, Boy Scouts of America and Boston Children's Hospital. She helped establish "The Quiet Room" a chapel for prayer at Union Hospital in Lynn. She also served as Community Relations Chair for the Riverside Club of Saugus served on the finance committee of the Coastal Towers Condominium of Sunny Isles, FL, where she personally negotiated with insurance companies for the association. Mrs. Sherman drove until she was 97 and earned safe driver discount each year. Beloved wife of the late Louis Sherman, whom she married in 1935, he Owned Sherman's Market in Cliftondale section of Saugus. Beloved mother of Dr. Donald & his wife Barbara and Howard Sherman. Cherished grandmother of 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Attorney Morris Rapoport and Betty Tassel. Services at Goldman Funeral Chapel 174 Ferry St (off Route 60) MALDEN on Sunday April 28 ar 2:00 PM. Interment in Lynn. Condolence calls may be made following the interment at Aviv Center for Living 240 Lynnfield St. Peabody until 7PM and Monday at the home of Dr. Donald & Barbara Sherman 3-7PM.
