LINTON, Jennifer Stolte Age 78, Died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts in the loving company of her son and daughter-in-law. Dr. Linton was born in Calcutta, India on October 28, 1934. She was the daughter of Richard Warner Linton and Suzanne Stolte Linton. Raised in Calcutta and Nyack, New York, she graduated from high school in Nyack in 1952. She married Warren Brewer of Bryn Mawr, PA in 1956. She received a PhD in English from Tufts University in 1973 after earning a Master of Arts in English in 1963 from Vanderbilt University
and a Bachelor's Degree from Goucher College in 1956. Beginning in 1965 she taught as a Professor of English at Emmanuel College, Simmons College and Boston University. Her area of expertise was Neoplatonic tradition in Western Philosophy, Religion and Art and its presence in Modern Literature. As such, she was active in the Lawrence Durrell Society and served as resource editor of Chrysalis magazine. She travelled extensively, returning to India, visiting Corfu, Australia and Morocco as well as an ancestral home in Germany. In later years, she taught autobiographical writing to Elderhostel residents through self-designed 'The Write of Your Life' seminars. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Linton Brewer of Newton, Massachusetts and Mark Warren Brewer of Tucson, Arizona and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the St. John's Church, 297 Lowell Avenue, Newton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Jennifer Linton may be made to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
