WISE, John H. Jr. Of Scarborough, ME, and formerly of Orlean, VA and Brookline, MA, died on March 4, at home in his 90th year. He was born in North Carolina to John H. and Ethelwynne Frick Wise. A graduate of Stanford University, he joined the U. S. Navy at the beginning of WWII
. Three days after the bombing of Nagasake he assisted there in the evacuation of surviving Allied POW's. He later served in London, became a test pilot at NAS Patuxent River, and after several tours of duty, retired to Boston, MA in 1964, where he joined the world of finance with Loomis Sayles & Co., The Boston Company, Fidelity Investments and Eaton Vance. He was a member of The Brook in New York City, the Country Club in Brookline, MA and the Prouts Neck Country Club, Prouts Neck, ME. He served on the Vestry of the Church of the Redeemer, Chestnut Hill, MA, and was active in support of WGBH and the Jimmy Fund, both of Boston. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Hinckley Wise, and daughters Margaret Douglas Wise Stuart, and Katherine Pharibe Wise, and grandchildren M. Medora Hartz, John D. W. Hartz, Hattye C. Hytla, and Tully R., Emily W.F. and Parley E. Hannan. He is predeceased by his brother, Captain (USN) Peyton Randolph Wise, daughter Cecilia Frick Wise and granddaughter Eleanor Rose Hytla. Funeral services will be held at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Rd., Cape Elizabeth, ME on Saturday, March 16 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Leeds Episcopal Church, 4332 Leeds Manor Rd., Markham, VA on Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army and The Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Fund of Connecticut, 864 Wetherfield Ave., Hartford, CT 06114-3184.
