Dr. John Henry Getter

GETTER, Dr. John Henry 71, of Foxboro, MA, died comfortably at his home with his family in the early morning of Wednesday, March 2, 2011. He was the son of the late John Robert and Gertrude Getter of Worcester, MA. He was adopted and raised in Worcester Massachusetts and resided in Foxboro, MA for over 42 years. John was a graduate of University of Massachusetts and received his Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry. He began private practice in Foxboro in 1968 and then moved his practice to Mansfield. John later held his practice at offices located in Attleboro, Millis, Dedham, and Avon. He is survived by his wife Marsha L. (Wallace) Getter, son and daughter in law Andrew and Jean Getter of Hendersonville, TN, son Robert Getter of Foxboro, MA, son and daughter in law Marc and Susan Getter of Raleigh, NC, daughter and son in law Jordana "Donna" and James Smally of Foxboro, MA, and five grandchildren Sean, Shannon, and Joseph Smally of Foxboro, MA and Drew and Ellen Getter of Hendersonville, TN. He will be remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues for his love of his family and his profession, and his passions for Jazz, food (sushi), and the sunsets over Cape Cod Bay. A memorial service will be held at Temple Beth David of the South Shore, 1060 Randolph St., Canton, Friday at 12 pm. Following the memorial service, the family will be receiving friends at his home in Foxboro.
