LAWRENCE J. POIRIER

POIRIER, Lawrence J. Age 90, of Braintree, formerly of Scituate, died peacefully at home, Thursday, April 18, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born, raised and educated in Chelsea and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1940. Lawrence also earned an engineering degree and M.B.A from Northeastern University. He had lived in Braintree for thirty-three years and in Scituate for thirteen years. Lawrence served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for over forty years with the former New England Telephone Company first as an electrical engineer and later as a district manager, retiring in 1986. Lawrence was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Archbishop Williams High School Parents Association. He was a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed bowling. Lawrence was an avid sports fan and a former Boston College and Boston Red Sox season ticket holder. Beloved husband for sixty-four years of Kathleen A. (O'Brien) Poirier. Devoted father of Suzanne E. Hajjar and her husband Peter of Marshfield, Janette M. Nickerson and her husband Richard of Plympton, Lawrence J. Poirier, Jr. and his wife Katrina of Stoneham. Loving grandfather of Peter K. Hajjar and his wife Kathryn of Norwell, Nicholas J. Hajjar of Charlestown, Timothy M. Hajjar of Hull, Adam J. Borey and his wife Alyssa of Milford, Lauren E. Borey of Boston, and Kaylea E. Poirier of Stoneham. Loving great-grandfather of Charles, Phoebe, and Abigail. Brother of Paul Poirier of Peabody, Helen Daley of Reading, and Lorraine Buker of Falmouth. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Ave., QUINCY, Tuesday, April 23rd at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in the Church of Saint Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree at 11:30 a.m. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home Monday 4-7 p.m. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Scituate.
