73, of Waltham, Jan. 17, 2014. "Gone Fishing" after a valiant battle with complications from diabetes. Beloved husband of Carol Blair (Panaggio) for 51 years. Loving father of Leslie Castillo of Wayland and her husband Cesar. Grandfather of Daniel and Thomas Castillo. Also survived by his sister Virginia Firth of York Beach, ME and many sisters and brothersin law, nieces and nephews. Lester was born to the late Irene Blair (Fogwill) in Newton and was educated in the Newton public schools. Lester worked at Nabisco Corp and later retired from Mclean Hospital in Belmont after many years of dedicated service. He spent his days with his infant daughter after working the night shift and was a stay-at-home dad before it was trendy. He was an avid reader and fisherman. Lester had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and family, friends, and coworkers enjoyed his company. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and the simple pleasures of life. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Feb. 8 in the Newton Cemetery Chapel at 11AM.
