GILLIS, Marlyn Mackey Of Wayland, formerly of Wellesley. On a beautiful sunny day in May, we lost our sweet and funny mother, Marlyn Mackey Gillis. She was 76 and died after a mercifully short battle with lung cancer on Sunday, May 5, 2013. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time. Marlyn was an accountant and businesswoman, as well as an Emerita Professor of Management at Simmons College, a golf champion, and pianist. She grew up in rural Texas and earned a full scholarship to Lake Erie College for Women. She went on to earn multiple graduate degrees including an MBA from Babson College. She was a member of the Woodland Country Club, the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants, and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Professional Accountants. She is survived by her children, Phillip C. Mackey of Wayland; Monica M. Mackey of Marblehead; and her companion of twenty years, Ken E. Mast of Crystal River, Florida. A memorial visitation will take place at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St., WELLESLEY HILLS, on Thursday, May 9 from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm. Later this month, the family will host a celebration of her life at her home. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations be made to the Mackey Family Endowment Fund, a scholarship for women she established at the American Indian College Fund, 8333 Greenwood Blvd, Denver, CO 80221.
