BATTISTA, Maurice Joseph Age 90, a lifelong Quincy resident, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Maurice was born in Quincy to the late Ernest and Gaetana (Cacicia) Battista. He was raised in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1940. He served his country in World War II
in the U.S. Army
and was stationed in the Philippine Islands and New Guinea. After an honorable discharge, he returned home and earned his degree from Bentley College. He worked for many years as a CPA and controller in the retail industry and after retirement became a real estate broker for Century 21 in Weymouth. Maurice was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be remembered for his wisdom, trusted advice, kindness and generosity. He was also an avid ballroom dancer, gardner and stamp collector. In 1947, Maurice married Alma Dorothy DiBona. They enjoyed a loving marriage for forty-nine years until Almas passing in 1995. Devoted father of Gail Mangurian and her husband Glenn of Hingham and Nancy Humphrey and her husband Lawrence of Norwell. Loving and proud grandfather of Douglas Humphrey and his fiancé Kimberly Cronin, Laura Wells and her husband Daniel and Mark Mangurian. One of five siblings, he is survived by Albert Battista of Quincy and pre-deceased by Anthony Battista, John Battista and Edward Battista. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his dear friend, Joan Campbell. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Monday, October 7th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 oclock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home Sunday 4 7 p.m. Interment with Military Honors at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
