RICHARD F. BARRY

BARRY, Richard F. Of Avon, formerly of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on October 5, 2012 at the age of 88. Husband of the late Beverly (Brides) Barry. Loving father of Carol Riley of Sandwich, Michael Barry of Walpole and Stephen Barry of Avon and the late Christopher Barry. Devoted brother of Phyllis Ferguson of Cape Cod and James Gallagher of Lakeville. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Born and raised in Brockton, the son of Martha (Barry) Gallagher and Richard F. Barry; he was a graduate of Brockton High School class of 1942. A WWII veteran, he joined the Army Air Corps in December of 1942 as a member of the 494th Bomb Group known as Kelly's Kobras. He was a member of the HQ team planning missions in the Pacific Theater. He supported the Air Offensive Japan, Western Pacific, Luzon, Southern Philippines and Okinawa campaigns preparing top secret plans for dispatch. Dick received his honorable discharge on December 5, 1945 at the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Barry later worked as a pipefitter and was a proud member of Pipefitters Local 537 for 65 years. He also worked part time as a real estate agent in the Greater Brockton area. He had many interests: reading, golfing, bocce, listening to classical music and Jazz. Above all, he loved dancing almost every Saturday night with his beloved wife, Beverly. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main Street, RANDOLPH until 9:15 AM on Saturday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Michael Church, Avon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4:00 - 8:00PM. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Avon.
