PEARSON, Robert Whiton 85, a 40-year resident of Mine Run, VA and recent resident of Ladysmith, VA, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013. He lived happily with his daughter Julie and her husband Gary, along with many mutual pets. Born November 10, 1927, in Newton, MA, he was one of five sons of the late Ezra Duncan and Marjorie Louise Wilson Pearson. Mr. Pearson served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany until 1948 and the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953. Mr. Pearson retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1979 with the rank of Commander, having served 17 years as an intelligence officer. He graduated as valedictorian from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1956 with a masters degree and worked for 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry before joining the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in 1972. Mr. Pearson was employed as a federal investigator and traveled extensively in South America, Europe and Turkey before retiring in 1987, after 20 years of federal service. He served the citizens well according to his former office head at DEA. The commanding officer of his Naval Reserve unit said of him upon his retirement, He will be sorely missed - he will be hard to replace. Mr. Pearson served as Orange Countys Emergency Services Coordinator for several years in the mid-nineties, organized the Mine Run Neighborhood Watch and the Animal Welfare, Adoption and Rescue of Orange County (a companion animal rescue group). In addition to his parents, Mr. Pearson was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Rose Roxborough Pearson (mother of his children), and four brothers. Survivors include his second wife, Marilyn Morris Pearson; five loving children, Robert K. Pearson and wife Patricia of Tuscan, AZ, Kathleen L. Wentworth and husband Lenny of Fredericksburg, VA, Gary W. Pearson of Austin, TX, Julie P. Pratt and husband Gary of Ladysmith, VA, and John L. Pearson and wife Shirley of Manassas, VA; grandchildren Jeremy Wallace and wife Jessica, Jesse R. Wallace and wife Christin, Johnathon E. Wallace, James P. Pratt, Robert W. Pearson, Nathaniel R. Pearson and wife Michelle, Lindsay W. Coleman and Frederick J. Coleman; great-grandchildren Danielle Taylor Wallace, Justin Tyler Wallace, Eve Rene Wallace, David Micah Wallace and Sarah Rose Wallace; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was very proud of them all. A private inurnment service will be held at Old Ship Church in Hingham, MA at a later date. Memorials may be made in his name to Ladysmith Rescue Squad, Box 186, Ladysmith, VA 22501. Heaven opened its golden gates for an amazing man who will never be forgotten by those who loved him.
