ROLF JAMES CONSTABLE MCVICKAR(1924 - 2013)

McVickar, Rolf James Constable
Of Wayland, MA and Walpole, ME ,passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife Joan and his daughters, Paris of Concord MA and Leslie of Charlestown, MA. Born in Paris, France on October 24, 1924, Rolf was the son of John Augustus and Dorothea Edgarita Crouse McVickar. He lived in Paris until the age of 9, when the family returned to New York City. He attended Fordham University and later joined the Merchant Marines during WWII, serving on the Liberty Ships which carried supplies to our troops on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. After the war, he joined Eastman Kodak where he worked for 31 years in the Business Systems Division at several offices, eventually ending up in Boston as Sales Manager of the New England district. Rolf was an accomplished cabinet maker and built many choice 18th Century reproductions including a Rhode Island block front chest of drawers. In later years he began painting with pastels and created many exquisite landscapes which have been exhibited at the Wayland Public Library. In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years and his two daughters, Rolf is survived by his nieces Victoria Avery, Heather Chase, Barrie Panthen and nephews George and David Baxter, as well as his great nieces and nephews, Jillian Ihsanullah, Alexandra Demers, Christopher Avery, Elizabeth Avery, Susan Quinn, Barbara Mahini, Bruce Nohe, Donald Panthen, Karen Westgate, Kris Dole, Kathryn Webb, Natalie Strange, George Baxter Jr, Melinda Gregg and Mark Baxter. Rolf also leaves behind 17 great, great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held, in celebration of his life, at the First Parish Church of Weston on Saturday September 21, 2013 at 11:00am with a reception to follow at the church.
