Moran, Timothy F. Captain Massachusetts State Police, Retired, Dean of Northeastern University Law Enforcement Program, Retired, age 96, of Nahant, died on Sunday April 13, 2014, (Palm Sunday) at the Aberjona Nursing Center, Winchester, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Moriarty) Moran. Born and raised in Somerville he was the son of the late Timothy and Margot (Duggan) Moran. From 1942 until 1962 he worked as a Massachusetts State Trooper first as a patrol man, then in the Bureau of Photography and finally Public Relations, where he had risen to the rank of Captain at the time of his retirement. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II after returning from the war he resumed his role with the State Police. Tim, a big believer in furthering education, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Boston College attending college part time evenings while continuing to work full time as a state trooper. After retirement from the state police he became a Professor at Northeastern University continuing his education receiving a Master's Degree in Education later becoming the Associate Dean of the Law Enforcement Program at Northeastern University. During his time at Northeastern (1963-1983), he expanded programs to include the education of Police Officers. He was an active Communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Parish Pastoral Council and of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, and as a Senior Acolyte. He was also a member of the Nahant Civil Defense Team, Town Management Committee, a volunteer at My Brother's Table, and a member of the Retired Massachusetts State Police Association. Most importantly, he was a kind and compassionate family man who was deeply devoted to his wife Ruth, his children, and grandchildren. Tim was always there to help anyone in need. He is survived by two children Timothy G. Moran and his wife Gail, of Peabody, and Kathleen Daniels and her husband Bob, of Stoneham, eight grandchildren; Matthew, Marisa, and Britney Moran, Christopher, Alexandra, and Natalie Daniels, and Gordon and Robert Mari, and two great-grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Marjorie Mari, the grandfather of the late Shannon Sullivan, and the brother of the late Margaret and Edward Moran, and Josephine Bradford. His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation in the Church on Saturday from 10am-11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society St. Thomas Parish, 248 Nahant Road, Nahant, MA 01908.
