WILLIAM J. PRUYN(1922 - 2013)

PRUYN, William J. "Bill" Age 91, of Marblehead, died peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home, Salem. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William and Ida (Peterson) Pruyn. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. Bill was an accomplished businessman who worked for Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates and served as Chief Executive Officer. He served on many boards including the New England Aquarium and Northeastern University. Bill was also an avid yachtsman, racing his many sailboats along the coast of New England. For several years he served as the Commodore of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead of which he was a member for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Mary A. (Anton) Pruyn, and his children William J. Pruyn, Jr. and his wife Kathy, Barbara Wade and her husband Tom, Ann Marie Pruyn, and Stephen Pruyn, and was the father of the late Christopher J. Pruyn and Marilyn Pruyn. He also leaves ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30AM to 10:30AM in the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, MARBLEHEAD, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church Marblehead at 11AM.
