Vrettas, William S. "Bill"
99, of Quincy, MA, a former longtime Civic Leader of Lowell, MA, died March 28, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Helen J. (Gagnon) Vrettas. Loving father of William T. Vrettas and his wife Joan of Quincy. Devoted grandfather of Glens Colman and her husband Frederick of Needham, Holly McDonald and her husband Daren of Falmouth, and William A. Vrettas and his wife Jennifer of Milton; great-grandfather of Carly Colman of Needham, Lillian McDonald of Falmouth, Taylor and Jocelyn Vrettas of Milton, Shaymus Colman and Blake Colman, both of Needham, Daren McDonald of Falmouth, and Brady Vrettas of Milton. Born in Lowell, September 10, 1913, a son of the late Satirios and Hope (Foakos) Vrettas. He graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1929, and furthered his education at Lowell Technical College and Springfield College. Bill worked for the Lowell YMCA as the Aquatic Director and the Physical Education Director, and at the Vesper Country Club as a Caddy Master. He was the Executive Director of the Lowell Boys Club Association from 1956 until his retirement in 1979, where he inspired thousands of children, leaving an unsurpassed legacy of enduring hope, success and dreams fulfilled. The William S. Vrettas Memorial Golf Tournament was established to recognize his many contributions to the organization, and upon his retirement, the William S. Vrettas Scholarship Fund was established in his honor. Mr. Vrettas was a member of the Lowell Rotary Club and the St. John Guild, and was a longtime, active member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. Friends will be received at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Fr. Sarantos Way, Lowell, on Monday from 9 to 11:00 AM, followed by his funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment in Lowell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell, 657 Middlesex St., Lowell, MA 01851. Arrangements entrusted to
