Thomas A. Nutile

NUTILE, Thomas A. 87. Born in Boston and attended Boston Schools. In 1941 entered Boston University School of Management. He remembered being at B.U. in the study hall when President Roosevelt declared war on Japan that Monday, the day after Pearl Harbor. He enlisted in the then called Army Air Corp and was called into the service in 1943 while still a sophomore at B.U. He went to flight training school and became an aviator on a B-17 Bomber and was an instructor in navigation during the war until his discharge in 1945. He re-entered B.U. and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He joined Metropolitan Life as a Salesman and remained with the company for 35 years after which he took an early retirement at age 58. During that time with Met, he held many sales and management positions, and received numerous awards among which was being a member of the Prestigious Million Dollar Round Table, and being in the top 5% in sales in his company for several years. He also found time to teach for many years once a week Life Insurance Course to new and experienced agents and managers from all different companies sponsored by the Life Institute of Washington, D.C. Living in Lynnfield, MA upon his retirement in 1982, he moved to Centerville. He had built a home there in 1974, so the transition from Lynnfield to Cape Cod was an easy one. In Centerville, he joined many clubs and bridge groups. He was President of the Barnstable New Comers Club and President of the New Comers Club Bowling League for 5 years. Treasurer of his Beach Association for over 20 years. A town meeting member, and the first treasurer of the Centerville Village Association. Now called the Centerville Civic Association, and is a life member. Former treasurer and lifetime member of the Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club. He also gave a yearly scholarship to some deserving incoming college freshman from the Yacht Club. Is a member of the B.U. Club of Cape Cod and several other Clubs. He thoroughly enjoyed the Couples Bridge Groups. Taking some courses to learn to play bridge when he retired, he always said it was one of the smartest decisions he made as a senior. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara, and 3 children, Thomas Jr., of P.S.L, FL, Tami Nutile Tabshey & Robert of Wethersfield CT, Paul Nutile & Mary of Burlington, CT, and by 5 grandchildren, Frank, Julie & Jennifer Tabshey, Danielle Nutile and Isaac Nutile. Private service and burial at the Massachusetts Military Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Memorial Donations may be made to The Central Association of the Miraculous Medal, 475 E.
