Anne Houghton Obituary

HOUGHTON,Anne Bernadette "Nanette" 47, a most loving mother, sister, friend, wife, and daughter died Monday, February 7th in Boston, MA after a courageous battle with cancer and was surrounded by her family and friends. She is predeceased by her sister Judith Houghton and brother James Gambino. She was born on December 28, 1963 in Yokohama, Japan. Her radiant energy, generosity and kindness touched all she encountered. Nanette was a devoted, proud and loving mother who lived for her daughter Gwendolen. Her strong will to live and resolve kept her ever hopeful for a cure. Nanette also participated in drug studies to help further cancer research and provide continuing hope for others. She always put others first and her concern for those she loved was always foremost on her mind. She approached everything with precision and was a brilliant scientist who devoted her entire career to cancer research which began at Dana Farber. Nanette kept us all laughing and smiling even in the toughest times. She is dearly missed and fondly remembered by all. A memorial service will be held for Nanette on Saturday, February 12th, 11 a.m. at First Church Belmont, Unitarian Universalists, 404 Concord Avenue, Belmont, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Center in her name (http://www.dana-farber.org/how/gifts/)

As Nanette's neighbor, every time I had the fortunate chance to see her, near home or at school, I could not help but be lifted by her smile and manner, whatever kind of day I was having. I hope that her love and bright spirit now stay within all those whose lives she touched, and that they can draw on that whenever in need. Our thoughts prayers are with David and Gwen especially these days. Peace be with you.
