Dear Lucia and Family,
I was terribly saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I last laid eyes on Bob on the Wednesday before he succumbed. As always he sat taking in the murmurings and buzzings of those mingling in the cafeteria. I remember approaching him and extending my hand. He greeted me with a hint of a smile, a wisp of a kind of knowing that he often quietly betrayed, and an unmistakable kindness and warmth. I witnessed the way in which his struggles hollowed him out, depriving us of his capacity for engagement that was once so present, so evident. I'll never forget his urging that we at our organization turn our attention to advocacy. One would expect nothing less from a legally trained mind. But it was his heart that informed his wish that we cast our eyes on how we could better develop our voices for change. Alas, we stuck to our knitting - support and education.
I will not forget how Bob and Lucia trekked all the way out to Jamaica Plain when I was hospitalized at the Faulkner years ago. Gentle and soft-spoken, he sat quietly, but in his silence was a stentorian call for me to return to a state of wellness and wholeness. I too have experienced the ways in which my challenges have hollowed me out and rendered a restless spirit stilled and silent. But I also remember in that visit to the Faulkner that were we playing a game of Jeopardy, he would have aced the entire category devoted to Art History. His knowledge was encyclopedic.
Bob, you will be missed, but we who remain will be blessed by the memory of how you imbued our community with kindness, gentleness, and wisdom.

Remembering your gentle kindness, Bob, and your thoughtful expression. Keeping in my heart Lucia and your daughters. May peace, love, and joy fill your heart in heaven. ❤
I so wish I could say farewell at your service, but my kids (especially my 4yo) can't spare me tomorrow morning. So I'll say my goodbye in other ways. You comforted me and made the world a little brighter for me whenever we met. Be at peace, dear friend.

I always admired Bob and considered him a close friend during our time together at University School in Cleveland. When he left for Lawrenceville I was impressed with his new focus and stellar performance. So much so, that I sent all 5 of my children to Lawrenceville where the current headmaster is Steve Murray. I helped hire Steve from Deerfield to become Headmaster at US, a position he held before going to Lawrenceville.I'm now a Life Trustee of University School and we were hoping Bob would return for our 50th reunion. Sadly, we will not see him but I can assure you he is not forgotten.Condolences to the family....from me and the entire class of 69Darrick E.Antell, MD850 Park AveNYC
