ROBERT THOMAS GIGGIE

GIGGIE, Robert Thomas Of Braintree, 85, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side, on Sunday, December 9, 2018. Bob was loving son of the late Albert and Jennie (Cagnola) Giggie of Dorchester and Milton. Upon graduating from Charlestown High School in 1951, Bob was drafted to pitch for the Major League Baseball team, the Boston Braves. In 1956, he joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War and played on the Army Baseball Team. He returned to playing Major League Baseball for the Milwaukee Braves and the Kansas City Athletics until 1962. Bob had a successful career as CAD drafting engineer at Parson Engineering and Vanderwield Engineering in Boston for over 35 years. In his retirement, he volunteered for the South Shore Elder Services and the Town of Braintree. He was a lifetime member of the Major League Baseball Alumni Association and a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed bowling, cribbage, and visits to Cape Cod, MA and Ogunquit, ME. Bob will be greatly missed by all. Bob was the devoted and loving husband of Kathleen A. (Fallon) Giggie. Loving father of Diane Barnes of San Antonio, TX, Michael and Valerie Giggie of Ruthersfordton, NC, and Jennifer and Kurt Beatty of Stoughton, MA. Loving grandfather of 13 grandchildren. Devoted cousin of Mildred Genovese of Weymouth and Elaine Blinn of New Hampshire. Beloved brother-in-law of Maureen Boylan, Jeanne Fallon and Tom Rines, Colleen Knospins and John Boylan. Devoted uncle of Scott and Robert Croteau, Jennifer Judge and Kaleigh Knospins. Bob is also survived by many great nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends will celebrate and remember Bob's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., BRAINTREE on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., Braintree, MA on Friday, December 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Jimmy Fund) or Hospice of the South Shore.
