ROSE CHERUBINI Obituary

CHERUBINI, Rose (Santeusanio) 102.5, formerly of Quincy, was for over 50 years a leading Bridal and Cocktail and Evening Wear designer in Quincy and Boston. As designer and retailer, she opened her first atelier / boutique in 1950, "Rose Cherubini's" at 1246 Hancock Street, Quincy. This included a wide range of jewelry, accessories, ready to wear, cocktail, evening wear and original designs. Adjacent to her store she opened "La Bottega" that sold imported household decor items. A decade later in 1960 she relocated from Quincy to 121 Newbury Street in Boston, with her originally designed wedding and evening gowns. After 10 years she decided she wanted to "take it easy" so to speak, and closed her shop and became the Buyer and the Bridal Salon Mgr. for Hurwich Brothers, Worth's and Bonwit Teller's. At age 63 she decided that it made more sense to work for herself again, and opened Rose Cherubini Bridal on 234 Clarendon Street in Boston. Among her many couturier successes, she originated formal gowns in Shocking Pink burlap, for which she received commendation from the Pakistani ambassador which was to stimulate commerce between the United States and Pakistan. She created an "Orbit gown" for the wife of John Glenn, the first US astronaut to circle the earth and the evening wear for many pageants (Miss and Mrs. Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Miss America Pageants to name a few). During her career, she was repeatedly interviewed on Boston area television. In fact she designed, cut and sewed a formal dress during a 2 hour morning news show. A predecessor to today's "Project Runway". She conducted numerous fashion shows in the Massachusetts area and New York City. She also opened a boutique in Wareham, following her retirement there twenty five years ago. Her last fashion show was in 1990 at age 90 in Bourne, MA. In August of 2013, at 100 years of age, there was a Solo Exhibition and retrospective of her original designs at the Samson Projects Gallery in Boston. Many of her original creations can be found on ETSY and EBAY. These include her signature beaded and hand painted dresses. During her career she was an icon on the east coast and designed for multiple generations. Often designing customers prom dresses, cotillions, bridesmaid and then their wedding dress. What followed was then the daughter of the original bride, and then the granddaughter. Mrs. Cherubini leaves two sons, Julian H. Cherubini of Boston, MA, and Jon C. Cherubini of Ft. Lee, NJ, four granddaughters Janice Rose Cherubini-Lamartine, Stephanie Schwartz, Nicole Cherubini, Alexandra Cherubini, and four great grandchildren, Jason and Andrew Schwartz, and Malachi and Roma Cherubini, and one great-great-granddaughter, Amelia Schwartz. Funeral from the Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin Street, QUINCY, on Thursday, February 11 at 9am. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John's Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 3-7pm. Interment will be private. www.boleafuneralservices.com

Dear Julian. Please accept our condolences on the loss of your mother. Since we left the University Club and moved to Florida, there is a disconnect in time as to when we get news.
May your mother's name always be remembered for a blessing and may you and your family be comforted among the mourners of the world.
Kind regards
