ARNOLD KNOX Jr.

KNOX, Arnold, Jr. "Bud" Of Lexington, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 70 years to Evelyn M. (Taintor) Knox. Devoted father of Jeffrey A. Knox and his wife Carolyn of Milford; Barry J. Knox and his wife Marie of Dover, NH; and Wendy E. (Knox) Costello and her husband Joseph of Lexington. Loving Poppa to Rachel and her husband Tom, Katie and her husband Christian, Christopher and his wife Caitlyn, Julie and her husband Michael, Brendan, Joey, Catherine, Jenna, Jackie and her husband Joseph, Alison, and Jeffrey. Proud great-grandfather to Maggie, Sydney, and Ethan.

Bud was the steadfast second-generation President of Knox Dodge on Broadway in Somerville, a landmark Dodge dealership in Ball Square for over 60 years. Bud's accomplishments in the community were vast, and he was widely admired.

A civic-minded man of service who served the city he loved, Bud was on the Board of Directors of: the Somerville Family Services (Treasurer), Somerville Kiwanis Club (President & Treasurer), Somerville Chamber of Commerce (President & Executive Secretary), Somerville Home for the Aged (President), Somerville YMCA (President & Treasurer), Somerville Savings Bank, Somerset Savings Bank, and the Somerville Public Safety Commission. Bud's community service extended to his hometown of Reading where he volunteered for Boy Scouts of America (Scout Master), Little League Baseball (President), and the Reading Art Association (BOD & Treasurer).

A member of the "Greatest Generation", Bud was a Lexington High School graduate and was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served his country in WWII meeting his future bride of 70 years. Upon return, he earned a business degree in accounting from Bentley College as a member of the academic fraternity Kappa Pi Alpha. Throughout his lifetime, Bud and Evelyn enjoyed traveling together, the arts, and attending all sporting events of their children and grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, LEXINGTON. (781) 862-1800 on Sunday, December 9th, 4 -7pm. Funeral Services will be at the Union Congregational Church of North Reading at 148 Haverhill Street on Monday, December 10th at 10 am. Interment at Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading.
