HAROLD SOSSEN Obituary

SOSSEN, Harold S. Of Marblehead, formerly of Sherborn, died May 18, 2013 at age 88 from complications of a stroke. He leaves his beloved companion of 26 years, Charlotte Mazonson, his son, David Sossen, daughter, Nina Sossen, brother, Edward Sossen, grandchildren, Abigail Sossen and Jack Lawson, and great-grandchild, Mackenzie. His daughter Paula Lawson and brother Robert Sossen predeceased him. Harold was born in Dorchester, Mass., the eldest son of Mollie and Henry Sossen. He served in the US Navy during World War II as a radar operator on the USS Quincy. He earned degrees from Northeastern University and from Boston University, where he also taught, before joining physiological research equipment developer Harvard Apparatus in 1954. At Harvard Apparatus, he invented the world's first syringe infusion pump and served as company president. After his retirement, Harold spent many years traveling on an antique barge through the canals of Europe with Charlotte and together they wrote the book, "Over the Hill and Still Afloat." A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the MIT Faculty Club, 50 Memorial Dr., Cambridge, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold's name to the Joslin Diabetes Center. Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel 781-581-2300 www.stanetsky.com
