David's memory lingers on. He was a champion for the elderly and a warrior against food insecurity.
He was and is a model for me, calm and deliberate in his advocacy. May his memory be a blessing.

Caryn and the Mofenson Family -

I met David when I was a student at Weeks. I interned in his legislative office and over a two year period enjoyed the company and conversation of this most wonderful man.

I also spent part of a summer working at his mother Ruth's home, helping her arrange and organize her space. Caryn, both you and Ruth were kind and generous and could not have been nicer.

I've only today learned of David's passing; and wished to offer my most sincere condolences. Although I'd not seen David for nearly 40 years, I remembered him well and thought of him often. I so appreciated his thoughtfulness, humor and intellect. In my 58 years, I can tell you today that he was one of the finest people I've ever met.

I echo the many sentiments here of those who knew, loved and respected David.

Caryn, you and your family; and David of course, are in my thoughts and prayers. My most sincere condolences.

Dear Caryn,

I knew David from when I was an Assistant City Solicitor in Newton. He was kind, professional and extremely helpful. I just learned of his passing while looking up his information to give to a family member in need of a lawyer. Please know that he is most surely missed by the legal profession. I am so sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

Catherine Lester Salchert, Esq.

Caryn - I sent a baseball item do David's office this morning, only to receive back a note of his having passed. I have notified Richard Donnelly and Alan Walters as well.
Sue and I send our sincere condolences to you and your family. David played many roles in our lives, including being a Trustee for our daughters' estates. But my best memories of David are dominated by many, many baseball vignettes! And of course, the Mofenson for Congress campaign.

Love, Eric and Sue

Dear Caryn,
While attending the high school reunion I was shocked to learn of David's passing. We
lived across the street from each other and
walked to the bus every morning while attending Weeks and Newton High. I have many fond memories from our childhood together. I will always remember him. He was good friend. I am very sorry for your loss

David was quite literally my first friend and I his. Our fathers worked together, our mothers socialized together, and we were born within a few weeks of each other. I have old home movies of him and myself sharing a feeding table as infants. He was kind and generous even then - he fed me as well as himself; sad to say I did not follow suit. Although we did not stay in touch as adults, we have reconnected from time to time over the years over our common interest in our fathers' work on Project Diana, the first time radar waves were bounced off the moon and the birth of radio astronomy. I've been working on and off on a Project Diana website; David was unfailingly helpful and supportive of this effort as well as so generous in sharing information. I was just googling to see if I could find a good photograph of Jack Mofenson, David's father, and was shocked when David's obituary popped up instead. My sincere and profound condolences to his family. So so sorry he could not continue to share in developing the website with me; I am planning to dedicate it to his memory.

Caryn and Kids.....because that's the way he always referred to you...his Kids...wonderful. I've known and loved David and Caryn for more than 40 years. My daughter,Monica , was their babysitter. We shared so many happy and sad moments...only a book could recount them. When my wife of 52 years, Paula, crossed over, David and Caryn were the most caring and accepting and supportive during that time of sorrow....and there after. Caryn, I can tell you that he is with Paula and his Dad. He will reach out to you, so be prepared. Your connection is not broken, just shifting to a different channel. We can talk more about this when you are ready. In the meantime, let's not cry because he gone, let's smile because we had him.
Love ,

David Mofenson was a tall man in stature and character. He was a genuine intellectual (who loved studying history) but in other ways utterly practical. He reached out to us the Rolle family in so many ways over the years especially to our son Craig a long time friend with his son Dana. Although we are now located in Florida, when we remember the relationship with David it seems really close and immediate. We send our warmest and heartfelt condolences to Caryn, Jay and Dana and to Amy and Lisa. So sorry. Bob and Norene Rolle Winter Park, FL

I first knew David when he was my state rep and then when I had an office two doors down from his. I was a new lawyer, and he mentored me. He was incredibly helpful to me in every way. Lately he performed some legal services for me and my husband, and did everything so well, so quickly, and with such a personal touch. He was caring, professional, ethical--everything a lawyer should be. I was so privileged to have known him as a rep, as a mentor, as a lawyer, and, most importantly, as a good and dear friend. I will miss him more than I could ever say. Lynda Christian, Burlington, MA

I worked for David for a decade. There was never a man who was more good, honest and devoted to those around him. It was an honor merely to know you and to have helped you. I am heartbroken that you were taken so soon. May God hold you close and may God bring comfort to your family.

August 3, 2015

Dear Caryn, Jay and Dana,

Your husband and Father played a very important and valued role in my life and I am shocked and saddened by his untimely passing. From the death of my husband 26 years ago and the tragic death of my brother just 1 year ago, David did much more than help with necessary paperwork. He consoled me, he asked important questions to guide me, he came to funerals and was always there to be a support in my life. I did not just consider him my lawyer, but more importantly, a friend on which I could rely. He was a truly a compassionate man, the very embodiment of a mensch. He will missed by many. My deepest condolences to your entire family
