Dear Nina,
Please accept my condolences. I will always remember Bob as the consummate physician. I have cherished the memories of our time together at the MGH. A giant in medicine has passed. We owe him much.

Dear Dr. Tolkoff-Rubin
We have many men who make up our
lives
Fathers. brothers, grandfather and son
But the one that we call husband is the
one
who we attach our heart and live as one
With the solemn oath that until death do
we part
God gives us many gifts in life, parents,
children
even friends; But the special gift is in a
blessed
union to the one true love of our lives
That is the one that we call husband
Lucky is the women who finds that
special man
The one true love from which all love
springs
The joy of children that we call our own
I am so grateful for that one man I found
That I chose to be my husband
"In loving memory of your dear husband. You have our deepest sympathy"

Dear Nina
I was thinking about Dr Robert today, I am so sorry for his loss .
He was a lion of a man ,with a warm loving heart . He loved his family above all. He is an unfogettable human being and it was a privilege to work for him.

Bob Rubin was an amazing human being, an extraordinary physician, researcher, and educator; a towering figure, essentially the founder of the field of Transplant ID, and (I am honored to say) my mentor, as he was for so many others who have followed in his pioneering footsteps. The core principles he articulated, including the 3-part timetable of infections after organ transplantation, the net state of immunosuppression, and "the compromised host as sentinel chicken", among others, are principles that still hold true, and that we teach our trainees and colleagues every day. Throughout my 25 years as an attending physician, first at Cleveland Clinic and now Johns Hopkins, I have continued to approach challenging clinical situations by thinking about how Bob would approach the patient and how he would formulate the differential diagnosis and management. In addition to his incredible clinical acumen, his personal qualities including his warmth, his humor, his respect for all people, and his passionate advocacy for patients, all have shaped my approach to the physician-patient relationship over the years.
I count myself extremely fortunate to have known Bob and to have experienced his teaching and guidance in person. It's hard to believe he is no longer here with us, but I will do my best to honor his memory by continuing to transmit and disseminate the principles that he established. Two weeks from now, I will be giving a talk at the ICHS meeting (International Immunocompromised Host Society) meeting in Greece, on severe infections in liver and lung transplant patients, and I plan to dedicate this lecture in Bob's memory and to build it around the core principles of Transplant ID that he established.
My deepest sympathies to Nina, Melissa, and family, and may you find some comfort in knowing how many of us will treasure his memory in years to come.

I worked with Bob and Nina in the transplant unit in the 70's. So long ago - yet never forgotten. Bob was always someone to share our joys and to answer our ID questions. My thoughts are with you, Nina, and your family.

Bob Rubin was a larger than lifefigure
Great, old school doctor with vast knowledge and experience in clinical medicine, a bridge builder between clinical and basic research, a a visionary and above all a caring person and a warm, thoughtful mentor. He helped countless of young physicians, myself included, over 20 year ago, to do better and he was always very proud of the success of his pupils
His passing signifies then end of an era in Transplantation infectious diseases, a field where he was a true pioneer
We will all miss him dearly
My deepest condolences to Nina and his whole family
