ARTHUR ADAMS Jr.

ADAMS, Arthur, Jr. A lifelong resident of Dover, died at home on May 31, 2013. He was the son of the late Arthur Adams and Margery Lee (Sargent) Adams of Dover, the brother of the late John Q. Adams, and half-brother of the late Governor Francis W. Sargent and George L. Sargent. He was a well-known and well-loved figure in Dover, serving as a Scoutmaster there for 41 years. As Scoutmaster, he brought out the best in his scouts, offering friendship and teaching them camping, mountain-climbing skills and sailing. He was awarded the Silver Beaver, scouting's highest award, for distinguished service to young people in a local council. He was also a volunteer fireman, starting in 1949, and later became the director of emergency management in Dover. After graduating from Harvard College in 1950, Arthur served two years in the Chemical Corps of the U.S. Army in Maryland and the Panama Canal Zone during the Korean War. He received a M.S. in physics from Northeastern University in 1958, and worked as a research physicist at Raytheon Research Division until his retirement in 1985. Arthur loved sailing, especially in Casco Bay, Maine in his Hinckley Pilot, "Dolphin." He is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, their numerous children and grandchildren, scores of friends, and by his wonderful caregivers. A memorial service will be held at the Dover Church at 17 Springdale Ave. on June 29 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Boy Scout Troop 1 Dover, P.O.
