CLAIRE MONAHAN Obituary
91, of Naples, FL and Chatham, MA died February 24, 2013. She was born October 1, 1921 in West Hartford, CT to Robert and Madeline (nee, Caulfield) Kennedy. She retired with her husband in 1987 from Dover, MA to Naples, FL and Chatham, MA. Mrs. Monahan was raised in West Hartford, CT, attended Saint Joseph's College and worked for Travelers Insurance Company until marrying Richard (Dick) J. Monahan Sr. Claire and Dick raised their two children in Dover, MA while spending their summers on Cape Cod in Chatham. Claire was an active member of The Most Precious Blood parish in Dover, MA and was very involved in the PTA and other community organizations. Claire loved to travel throughout her life and did so extensively, early on with her sister Arlene and then later while married. Not only a wonderful wife and mother, Claire was a beloved friend to all who knew her. Claire was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years Dick Monahan. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Desmond) Oakes of Newbury, NH; son Richard J. (Jennifer) Monahan, Jr. of Williamsburg, VA; and four grandchildren. A memorial mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 57 Highland Ave Chatham, MA 02633 with burial immediately following at Union Cemetery.

I remember Claire and Dick Monahan for their deep love, of each other, their children, and their family. We were cousins through the Caulfield name, and it was especially graifying to reconnect with them in Naples. I recall wonderful meals with them begun with Dick's special stuffed baked clams; when he came to Seagate Beach, he would always hunt up some big clam shells from Clam Pass. I also remember the choir of Bynam Caroller figures crowding the exposed beams in their Imperial home. I shall miss them very much. I regret that I lost touch with Claire after we lost Dick, so it was sad to see that she has passed, but also gratifying to know that she is now re-united with Dick.
