GERALD BACCARDAX Obituary

Baccardax, Gerald J.
88, of St. Cloud, FL and Rochester, NH died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a recent illness October 14, 2013. Jerry was the son of the late Juanita (Perrier) and Cornelius Baccardax. He was born July 29, 2915, and raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston H.S. A member of America's Greatest Generation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served honorably aboard the USS Franklin an aircraft carrier noted as the warship that endured the most casualties of any surviving ship, over 924 men died in two separate attacks. The only ship to have more casualties in WWII is the USS Arizona. During the Pacific campaign the Franklin earned 4 battle stars. Jerry who for many years made his home in Wakefield, MA worked at Chelsea Naval Hospital and retired from the Lynnfield Public Schools. He is survived by his loving wife Elayne (Baudreau) Baccardax. This past July 7th they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Also, survived by their daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Michael Granfield, a granddaughter Jessica Aasrud and her husband Paul, a grandson Daniel Granfield, and a sister-in-law Judy Johnson and her husband Arnold Johnson. Along with his family he enjoyed many days of boating, camping, and square dancing. Arrangements are being made by the Cremation Services of Mid-Florida. There will be no services and burial will take place at the Bourne National Veterans' Cemetery, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The family would like to thank the exceptional care given by the Samaritan Care Hospice,1300 North Semoran Blvd., Suite 210, Orlando, FL 32807 and memorial contributions can be made to that organization.
