HERBERT GURLAND

Gurland, Herbert 64, of Malden. Entered Eternal Rest May 4, 2015 after a long battle with a rare disease, known as Pemphigus Vulgaris. A retired accountant, he was the president of the New England Backgammon Club. He believed backgammon was "the microcosm of life, where one's success is the result of both luck and skill—luck prevailing in the short run and skill in the long run." Beloved fiance' of Linda Wiegenfeld. Devoted son of Martin & the late Mary Gurland. Dear brother of Fran & her husband Richard Healy. Cherished uncle of Bethany Williams. Herb will be missed by his many wonderful and quality friends. Services at the Goldman Funeral Chapel 174 Ferry St. (off Route 60) Malden on Friday May 8 at 3:30PM. Interment will be private.
