JOHN ENDICOTT HART Obituary
HART, John Endicott Died peacefully in Cambridge Nov. 9 at the age of 83. He had lived for the past 32 years with Parkinson's disease. Educated at Harvard, Hart was a man of varied and wide-ranging interests that ran the gamut from writing poetry and novels to tuning and restoring pianos. During the 5O's & 60's, he played acoustic bass and piano with a series of jazz groups in the series of venues that replaced Scollay Square. During the day, Hart exercised his passion for examining how things work and thought nothing of renting an engine holst and taking apart his car under a handy over-hanging tree limb. Known to his nieces and nephews as "inspector Gadget," Hart spent hours exploring the domestic machinery of his household, from dishwasher to carpet steamer. He was an avid sportsman, an expert skier, who also played tennis and golf in the summer months, or until the snow flew. In later years, as Parkinson's gained its grip on him, he embraced fishing and bird-watching with equal excitement. Hart is survived by his wife, Pamela, and his children, Sarah and Mark, as well as his grandchildren, Amal, Sondra and Giselle. His passing is also mourned by his numerous nieces & nephews and their progeny. Although none can point to any singular accomplishment in Hart's life, he had an enthusiasfor life in all its many aspects that left an indelible mark on those who knew him. Services private. Calling hours at the family home on Sun. Nov. 15 from 2-5.
