JOHN MCCARTHY Obituary

MCCARTHY, John F. Age 63, of Medfield, MA. passed away March 16, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cindy (Newbold) McCarthy and his children Brian F. McCarthy of Natick and Megan E. McCarthy of Medfield. Born in Somerville, MA on July 20, 1949, John grew up in West Newton and was a 1967 graduate of Our Lady's High School. A proud graduate of Boston College class of 1971, John earned an MBA from Florida State University where he met Cindy. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his parents, John J. and MaryLou (Hart) McCarthy of West Newton and his siblings Janet Mucci (Dave) and Joanne Donnelly (Tom) of Waltham, William McCarthy (Kathie) of Framingham, Paula Rhodes (Bobby) of East Dennis and Marylou Sullivan (Bob) of Darien, CT. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Mike Newbold (Teresa) and Jack Newbold (Vilma) of Marietta, GA and Pat Newbold (Kathy) of Miami, FL as well as many nieces and nephews. John worked at BTMU Capital Corp. in Boston for over 26 years. He was an enthusiastic member of the Boston College community holding season tickets for football and basketball, an avid golfer at Brae Burn Country Club and an active participant at St. Edward's Parish in Medfield. Relatives and friends may gather at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller St., Medfield on Wednesday, March 20th at 9:00AM for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of John at 10:00AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 133 Spring St., Rt 27, Medfield. Burial will follow at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield. Funeral home visiting hours are Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Cindy and family,
So sad to hear of John's passing. I had the pleasure of working with John at BTM Capital for many years and always enjoyed his kind spirit, grace, and positive outlook on life. He loved his family dearly and I am sure his only regret in his wonderful life was leaving you so soon. My thoughts and prayers are with the McCarthy family as I have just learned the news of John's passing. I too worked with John for the vast majority of my career and truly admired his often quiet but valiant and courageous fight.

He was a fine man who clearly made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be greatly missed and the world will be a different place without him.

Deear Cindy and all the McCarthy's,
I'm so sorry for the loss of Johnny at such a young age. It was so nice to see you at Christmas at Lois' assisted living facility. I'm so sorry that the weather today makes it too risky to drive to the wake. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. One fond memory I have is when i was probably 7 or 8 Johnny came to my parents house one winter day and spent most of a day out on Bullough's Pond teaching me to Ice Skate. I wish to extend my most sincere condolences to John's family. I worked for BTMU Capital for 33 years and was fortunate to work with John (who like me also had gray hair from almost the time he started) and share most of my career with him. John was friend, mentor and valued member of the BTMU team. It was very hard to say goodbye to John when I retired in 2010 knowing the courageous battle he was fighting, but John always had a positive attitude and always looked at the bright side of life especially BC's football standings. May he rest in peace.
